Did they film “The Adam Project” in The United States?
There are plenty of context clues as to where the story takes place, but no character explicitly states it on film. This leaves you scratching your head and asking: where was “The Adam Project” filmed?
With all of the lush forests we see on screen, you might think they filmed the movie in the Pacific Northwest. However, the actual filming location is a little closer to home for lead actor Ryan Reynolds. According to IMDB, they filmed the movie in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – which also happens to be the hometown of the star!
The Vancouver Sun reported that director Shawn Levy is also a native Canadian, although he grew up in Montreal. Levy apparently fell in love with the forests around Vancouver, which contributed greatly to filming “The Adam Project” there.
Aside from being the hometown of Ryan Reynolds, Vancouver is also a major hub for both television and movie production. Its proximity to Hollywood, tax incentives, and wide array of landscapes make it an ideal location for filming. Some of the major Vancouver productions in the last couple of years include “Thor: Love & Thunder” and “Yellowjackets.”
Where is the house from “The Adam Project”?
Possibly the most stunning location in the movie is young Adam’s house which is within a beautiful forest. The contemporary style of the home set among the vibrant green trees is sure to make you ask: where was “The Adam Project” filmed?
According to Dirt, the private residence is located in North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley neighborhood. They also bring up the fact that the actual home is slightly different from the one on screen.
Production designer Claude Paré spiced up the home through visual effects, adding a peaked roof and replacing the entire second story of the home. As for the interiors of the home, like with most movies, those were shot on a soundstage. What made this one unique was that the set included the home’s outdoor area so they could shoot night scenes during the day.
Notable Vancouver filming locations
When the action isn’t happening in the woods surrounding Adam’s home, we see the characters in several locations around the city.
Netflix put together a handy interactive map that contains the locations for some of the pivotal scenes in the movie. First is the bar where Adam meets with his mother in 2022. This is The Blarney Stone, an Irish pub in Vancouver’s Gastown neighborhood. Another is the pharmacy where Adam gets supplies to treat his bullet wound, which is in West Vancouver.
The villain of the movie, Maya Sorian, has a headquarters for her company in the city that also contains the lab where Adam’s father is developing time-travel technology. Exteriors of the company were shot at the Vancouver Convention Center while the interiors were also shot on a soundstage. According to Decider, Claude Paré based the lab off of the CERN Large Hadron Collider, turning it from horizontal to vertical.
Where did they film Laura’s cabin in “The Adam Project”?
The final location that we’ll be covering today is the cabin where Laura, played by Zoe Saldana, has been hiding out ever since becoming stranded in the past. Her cabin was built for the movie at the North Beach area of Alouette Lake at Golden Ears Provincial Park, according to Atlas of Wonders.
They also mention a nearby bridge that we see when Maya’s henchman Christos discovers where the cabin is. This is Gold Creek Bridge and you can also see it in the Vancouver produced show, “Riverdale.”
