This decision leaves many wondering about Marvel’s long-term strategy and the fate of its cinematic universe. Fans are understandably worried about what this could mean for their favorite cosmic superheroes and the broader Marvel landscape.

Reports Suggest Eternals 2 Has Been Canceled By Marvel

Marvel Studios has decided to scrap plans for Eternals 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the cosmic superhero saga. While fans were buzzing with speculation, especially after seeing fan-made posters circulating on social media, any official word on the sequel’s development remained elusive.

Eternals made its debut during the pandemic, offering a fresh take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, despite its unique approach, it became one of Marvel’s most polarizing films, receiving mixed reviews. This ambiguity left fans uncertain about the prospects of a sequel.

Although there were hints of a sequel from Patton Oswalt’s accidental reveal, nothing concrete emerged until early last year. Insider KC Walsh shared on Twitter that Eternals 2 has been added to Marvel Studios’ production calendar, signaling the studio’s commitment to the project.

Looked like it was happening, right?

Well, not so fast. New reports are saying that Eternals 2 is now canceled and is no longer in the works. Fans are feeling a bit let down. They were hoping for more exploration of the Eternals‘ universe, but it seems Marvel has other plans.

Rumor has it they’re playing it safe with their movie choices, aiming for guaranteed hits instead. Fans aren’t too thrilled about it; they feel like the Eternals didn’t get their fair shake.

Fans Are Unhappy Due To The Unresolved Cliffhanger In The Movie

So, it looks like Eternals 2 isn’t happening after all. Marvel’s playing it safe, focusing on surefire hits over risks. Fans are bummed about the cliffhanger in Eternals and the cancellation of the sequel.

They’re dying to know what happened to Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo. One fan (Zack Friedman) even commented,I guess we’ll never know what happened to Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo.”

Speculation was flying about a sequel, but Marvel promptly dashed those hopes. People were really looking forward to seeing the story continue and finding out what happened to their favorite characters.

I didn't like the movie but it had a big cliffhanger they can't ignore either the celestials. Are they just going to pretend nothing happened.

I’m not feeling this I actually enjoyed the movie.

I could care less about the Eternals — but boy would I love for that celestial to be addressed.

“Guaranteed hits” is an absolute red flag.
It implies no innovation. No experimtation. Cookie-cutter plots with stale characters. Meanwhile, some of the biggest successes for Marvel have been projects that try something new

So they’re just gonna leave the gates of all those characters be stuck in limbo?

Marvel’s decision to shelve Eternals 2 has left fans feeling empty. It’s understandable, though, considering Marvel’s rough patch at the box office lately. They’ve got some other projects like Deadpool 3, Kraven the Hunter, and Venom 3, which are ready to release this year.

But you know what? Maybe it’s not about taking fewer risks. It’s more about making sure the movies they do make are top-notch. The MCU had success with lesser-known characters, like Werewolf by Knight, and they did great.

But if the quality isn’t there, even a big name like Wolverine won’t save it. So, yeah, maybe Marvel needs to focus more on quality than playing it safe.
