One should always enjoy success with loved ones, but sadly Viktor Hovland didn't have that special someone to celebrate Europe's Ryder Cup triumph with.

The celebrations in Team Europe's camp are underway as they held off a late Team USA fightback to seal a 16½-11½ victory at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome.

During the celebrations the Europe contingent posed for photos with their respective partners, but it was a touch awkward for single Hovland.

While nearly every couple in the photo was seen kissing each other, Hovland was at the side with his arm around vice-captain Jose Maria Olazabal.

Credit to Hovland, he looked just as happy as everyone else to be there, but one can't help but have a touch of sympathy for the Norwegian who didn't have a partner by his side.

But things soon improved dramatically for the 26-year-old, who then got a solo picture with all the partners of Team Europe.

Hovland was facing the prospect of being on his own at the Ryder Cup gala on Wednesday night, although Olazabal spared him any embarrassment by being his date for the evening.

On the course it was a fine week for Hovland on what was his second Ryder Cup outing.

He finished the week on 3-1-1 for Team Europe, getting them off to a a good start on Sunday with a triumph over Collin Morikawa on the first match of the day.

Hovland made Ryder Cup history on Friday as he and Ludvig Aberg beat USA's Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka in the foursomes of 9&7 - the biggest margin of victory ever in the competition's history.
