Victoria Valentino biography

Victoria Valentino was born in 1942, in Kansas, United States of America. Originally from Connecticut, she relocated to California after completing high school. Following her move, she became a member of a folk group and subsequently married a photographer who aspired to greatness, but unfortunately, he proved to be an abusive individual.

She achieved the title of “Playmate of the Month” in 1963.

Valentino began her modelling career at a young age. She was selected as “Playmate of the Month” by Playboy magazine in September 1963, at the age of 19. Following her recognition, Valentino then relocated to the vibrant and glamorous scene of Los Angeles, where she encountered various singers, producers and actors. Additionally, she auditioned for several acting roles during this period.

In 1964, it is said that Valentino left her abusive spouse and actively participated in the launch of the original Playboy Club, located on the famous Sunset Strip, on New Year’s Eve.

Following her departure from Playboy, Valentino embarked on a new career path as a hospice respiratory nurse.

In 1974, Valentino experienced a life-altering event that would shape her future path. She reportedly fell victim to sexual assault, an ordeal that left her traumatised but determined to fight for justice. This tragic incident ignited her passion for activism and became a turning point in her life. Valentino channelled her pain into advocacy, joining forces with other survivors to bring awareness to the prevalence of sexual assault and support fellow victims.

In 1999, Valentino co-founded “Pave” (Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment), an organisation dedicated to providing support and resources for survivors of sexual assault. Pave focuses on education, prevention and empowerment through various initiatives, including workshops, conferences, and community outreach programmes.

Valentino’s encounter with Cosby occurred in 1969 when she was a young model and struggling single mother. Before we go any further, let’s take a look at who Bill Cosby is.

William Henry Cosby Jr. was born on July 12, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Cosby’s talent for comedy was evident from a young age and he honed his skills throughout his high school and college years. In the early 1960s, Cosby gained national recognition for his stand-up comedy performances, leading to appearances on popular TV shows and talk shows.

His breakthrough came in 1965 when he landed a leading role in the espionage adventure series, “I Spy”. Cosby’s portrayal of “Alexander Scott”, a smart and witty undercover agent, earned him critical acclaim, making him the first African-American actor to star in a dramatic television series. The show garnered multiple awards, including three consecutive Emmys for Cosby.

However, nearly 60 women have come forward since 2000 to accuse Cosby of sexual assault. However, due to many of the alleged incidents being historical and beyond the statute of limitations for sexual assault, only one case was taken to court. In a retrial following the collapse of the initial case, Cosby was found guilty on April 26, 2018, of sexually assaulting Andrea Constand. The assault was said to have taken place in 2004 at his Philadelphia mansion, where Cosby allegedly incapacitated Constand with blue pills and molested her while she was in and out of consciousness.

On April 27, 2018, Judge Steven O’Neill ordered Cosby to be placed on house arrest at his Philadelphia mansion and wear a GPS ankle bracelet for monitoring. He served over two years of a three-to-10-year prison sentence at a state prison near Philadelphia. However, on June 30, 2021, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Cosby’s sexual assault conviction, citing an agreement with a previous prosecutor that prevented him from being charged.

Following his release, Cosby’s publicist, Andrew Wyatt, confirmed that he had been picked up from prison on June 30, 2021.

Their stories were chillingly similar, describing instances of Cosby drugging them without their consent and taking advantage of their incapacitated state.

The collective weight of these accusations led to a public reckoning for Cosby as his reputation and career became tarnished. The allegations brought to light the stark contrast between Cosby’s public image as a wholesome, fatherly figure and the alleged pattern of predatory behaviour.

Cosby was sentenced to three to ten years in prison for his crimes. In 2018, Cosby was sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison by a judge in Pennsylvania after a retrial for the rape of Andrea Constand. However, in June 2021, his conviction was overturned. Following numerous appeals and legal manoeuvres by Cosby and his team of lawyers, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, with a majority of its seven justices, ruled that the decision made by then-Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor in 2005 not to prosecute Cosby after investigating Constand’s initial claim had a binding legal effect.

In an interview conducted shortly after Cosby’s release in 2021, Valentino expressed her profound shock and disbelief regarding the sudden turn of events in the case. She described feeling so overwhelmed by the news that she struggled to gather her thoughts and process the situation effectively.
