USPS hosting Passport Day ahead of fee increase

Visit a central Indiana U.S. Post Office March 17 to submit a passport application.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — If you're planning a vacation out of the country, but don't yet have a passport, now is your chance.

The U.S. Postal Service is recommending travelers submit passport applications Saturday, March 17 to avoid the price increase coming April 2.

Passport acceptance fees will increase from $25 to $35 to cover application processing costs.

These are the participating post offices in central Indiana:

In order to make the application go as smoothly as possible, USPS suggests these tips:

• Have proper proof of American citizenship — certified birth certificate issued by a city, state, or country (a hospital-issued birth certificate is not sufficient); a certificate of citizenship' or a naturalization certificate
• Have proof of identity — naturalization certificate; certificate of citizenship; current driver's license; government ID; or military photo ID
• Have $15 for passport photo if necessary
