“This is such happy and sad news” Simona Halep, Petra Kvitova and others bid adieu to Julia Goerges

Julia Goerges reached a career-high ranking of World No.9. The German champion also added seven WTA singles titles to her name. Moreover, she made waves in the doubles category as well and won five titles in the same. Further, Goerges reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2018 as well. To everyone’s surprise, she announced her retirement from professional tennis after penning an emotional farewell to the sport.

Georges made a vulnerable announcement in lieu of her retiremnet. She said, “I learnt how to deal with the toughest losses. But also enjoy the most amazing wins of my career. I am ready to close the tennis chapter of my life. And open a new one, which I am really excited about.”

Above all, many of Goerges’ contemporaries on the WTA Tour have shown support for her decision. They have wished her the best for the next step in her life.

Julia Goerges receives heartwarming messages on her retirement 

Many messages have poured in for the 31-yr-old from her contemporaries ever since she made the announcement.

Goerges’ doubles partner Karolina Pliskova wrote “Even though we achieved so many good results, our friendship is what I cherish the most! Thank you for all the lifetime memories. And I wish you all the best in the next chapter of your life! Happy retirement.”

Similarly, World No.2 Simona Halep expressed her bitter-sweet feelings. However, she did share a heartwarming message for Julia. 

Ohhh, this is such happy and sad news. I’m sad that I won’t see you on tour any more and happy because it means you are happy off court and you are ready to start another chapter! Your future looks very bright so I’m wishing you all the best and will keep in touch! ❤️😘🤗

Likewise, her compatriots and Fed Cup team-mates Angelique Kerber and Andrea Petkovic posted messages. They celebrated their bond and on-court rivalry.

In the same vein, Petra Kvitova wished her best to Julia and thanked her for her persona on-the-court.

Likewise, the WTA Chairman and CEO Steve Simon paid tribute to Goerges in a statement released on the WTA website. He wrote, “Julia’s powerful playing style, exemplary sportsmanship and thoughtful nature made her a fantastic ambassador for women’s tennis. On behalf of the WTA family, I congratulate her on her wonderful career. And the contributions she will leave with our sport. And wish her every success and happiness for the future. She will certainly be missed.”

Furthermore, Goerges reached a career-high ranking of No.9 in singles and No.12 in doubles. So, this allowed her to become only the third German in history to break into the TOP-15 for both categories.
