Well, it sucks if you’re a private person. Remember the story of Korra Obidi and her oyinbo ex-husband, Justin. Who knew he didn’t like being involved in her social media content? That’s probably you and your influencer partner if you don’t do something about it. If you’re lucky, you will only snap pictures and record videos while they film their content.

Here’s some free advice – resist the temptation to go through your influencer partner’s DMs. Your blood pressure will definitely be high. Influencers are celebrities which means they have tons of admirers. Some are cute while others can be downright uncouth.

Dating a male influencer

No time for themselves

A male influencer hardly has to do anything other than post on social media. He would stay up into the wee hours of the morning to create content and still be a functioning human being during the day while consistently posting on social media.

No time for you

If he doesn’t have time for himself, what makes you think he will have time for you? It doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about you but men will be men. Work first and romance later.

Loves himself too much

As in his ego is so high, you can almost literally see his head swelling with it. You’ll have to push him to have any interest in you because he is too busy thinking about himself and his accomplishments.

Motigbetional speaker

Most male influencers are motivational speakers. Nigerians rightly call some of them motigbetional speakers for their “do as I say, don’t do as I do” lifestyle. Life coaches, relationship experts, and fitness experts are most guilty of this. The life coach will tell you sweet stories of how he became a multi-millionaire by hard work whereas he is a coded yahoo boyThe relationship expert will tell you not to date broke women but will slide into women’s DMs to beg for money. A fitness expert will go under the knife but tells you the perfect body is a result of 100 hours of workouts (wait female influencers are more guilty of this) If you’re dating a fake influencer, be ready to receive the greatest shock of your life.

He’s a ladies’ man

Be ready for competition with other female admirers of your influencer partner who are ready to “snatch” him at the slightest opportunity.

Dating a female influencer

No time for you

You may realise you’re dating yourself because your female influencer partner is always busy posting stuff on social media. That’s just one of the major downsides of being an influencer. No time for real bonding and romance.

You may be disappointed when you meet the real her

Instagram filters and other filter apps have somehow changed a lot of ladies’ images to be what they’re not. Your partner may not be that light-skinned hourglass-shaped girl she always posts on social media. She may also be a glutton in real life while pretending to be a champion of healthy diets on social media. If she’s a motigbetional speaker, my brother just wear a shock absorber.

Be ready to become content material

You may realise that she always posts your private affairs on social media to entertain her followers. Female influencers often don’t know where to draw the line between what to post online and what to keep private.

You may turn into an unpaid cameraman

If you’re able to escape being in front of the camera all the time, chances are you’ll be stuck manning the camera. She will make you film her while she does her thing or you’ll be taking millions of pictures until she’s satisfied.

Male admirers are real

Oh yeah, don’t forget your influencer girlfriend has many admirers who are willing to upstage or replace you for her attention. Comes with the job, sorry.

Why people don’t want to date an influencer

Many people believe that influencers are a bunch of unserious jobless individuals who uselessly spend all their time on social media. Then they begin to date them to realise that these “jobless people” actually work harder than an average 9 to 5 worker. To become relevant on social media with the aim of making money, an influencer must consistently post content on their accounts or handles.

This brings us to another problem. One of the consequences of constantly posting online is the difficulty to have time for anyone or anything else. So if you’re dating an influencer, you’ll probably feel like an unwanted second wheel in his or her life. That can be quite daunting.

Female influencers are often more affected, especially models who are perceived to be nothing more than online prostitutes. The motigbetional speakers among them are not helping matters with their fake lifestyle.

Also, influencers are often not what they project online. Rude Boy sang, everybody rich for Instagram. This is often true. To gain followers, you have to show you’re living the good life that everybody wants. You have to show you have the perfect body, and perfect accounts to afford to lounge in destination hotels among others. However, a closer look at these influencers will open your eyes to see that most of them don’t even have half of what they project online. Fake life everywhere but anything for the ‘gram, right?

Don’t also forget that your business is probably going to be out there if you’re dating an influencer. If you’re a private person, this is going to be a problem. Finally, if you’re the jealous type, don’t bother dating influencers because admirers will not allow you to enjoy the relationship in peace. They’ll be biding their time, waiting, or even plotting to get you out of the way so they can “enter.”
