The act of wearing leggings can be downright controversial at times, with a camp of hard-core devotees facing off against those who think look is appropriate only for home or inside an exercise class. No matter which you belong to, there are universal truths about certain colors of leggings that should be avoided at all costs. Below, the three shades to stay away from.

White

You can go wrong about a million different places with snowy-hued leggings. For starters, they'll show any dirt in an instant. Plus, the thin jersey fabric means seeing skin imperfections through them is actually a possibility (the heavier cotton of white skinny jeans means that's rarely a problem in denim). Think of it this way: If black is the ultimate color for slimming, white's the polar opposite, making it a not-so-good choice for the skintight look.

Skin Tone

We talked about this last winter, but if there's any way someone could think you were pant-less when viewing you from across a room...that's a bad thing. Skip leggings that are in the same hue as your natural skin tone.
