We spoke to celebrity hairstylist Anh Co Tran last year, and he said the modern shag was on its way to becoming the new "it" hairstyle. It looks like he was right: Now that Swift gave this style her seal of approval, it's only a matter of time before the world follows suit.

"The shag creates movement, which is easier to grow out," Tran said. "Of course depending on your hair texture, it's a versatile cut that can be worn extremely messy or seamlessly straight ... It also gives a nice amount of body."

The key to making this look accessible for everyone? Waves. Finish your shag cut with some messy, lived-in waves to modernize the style and make it less jarring.

Swift's dramatic bangs really work with the shag too. If you're dying to get bangs, but you're not sure if they'll work for you, try pairing them with the modern shag. Swift will never steer you wrong! (Of course, there's always this checklist to help you too.)

We'll just blaze past the reductive assumptions that Swift changed her hair because she broke up with Tom Hiddleston. She's better than that. However, a "New hair, who dis?" Instagram post would be hilarious.
