Sexyy Red Dials Back Donald Trump MAGA Support: “I’m My Own Candidate”

Sexyy Red has tempered her seeming endorsement of Donald Trump, declaring that she’s not loyal to the former president or any candidate running for office.
On Monday (June 3), Sexyy Red responded to backlash surrounding her patriotic display at the 2024 Roots Picnic, where she performed at the previous day. During her performance, the hitmaker incorporated a remix of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan into her set, prancing across the stage that included a life-size hat bearing the phrase “Make America Sexyy Again.”
The rapper was also clad in a bikini with an American flag design, further adding to her politically-charged look. According to Sexyy Red, the only campaign she’s in support of is her own, a sentiment she shared with her followers on social media. “It’s Sexyy Red 4 President,” the St. Louis native wrote on X. “I’m my own candidate. I’m not endorsing anybody period.”
Sexyy Red then posted a subsequent tweet, writing, “Make America Sexyy Again” along with an American flag emoji. The “Pount Town” creator’s attempt to distance herself from all political parties her posts garnered mixed reactions, with some voicing their skepticism over Sexyy Red’s neutrality. Meanwhile, others commended her for addressing the matter.
Sexyy Red once spoke glowingly of the convicted felon in an interview, crediting the tycoon-turned-politician with assisting and ingratiating himself to the Black comunity. “I like Trump,” the 26-year-old said at the time.
“They support him in the hood. At first, I don’t think people was f**king with him. They thought he was racist, saying little s**t against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Awe, baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office.”
