Gomez’s latest cut is similar to one she had back in 2016—but this version is quite a bit shorter, giving it a fresher, more modern feel. “She was going for a ‘70s-inspired look,” Marino told Glamour at the time. “She wanted them [the bangs] long and feathery, which is a trend right now.”

The cut, which has been popular on other stars like Kaia Gerber and Dakota Johnson in recent years, is one that can work on a variety of face shapes and hair types. “Depending on your hair texture, the shag is a versatile cut that can be worn extremely messy or seamlessly straight. It also gives a nice amount of body,” stylist Anh Co Tran told us.

That versatility is one of the best things about the style. If you need to look more polished for a work party but want to go out after, you can add some texturizing spray (like this one from Oribe) to give it a more “I woke up like this but isn’t it chic?” vibe.

Whichever way it’s styled, we’re guessing the ’70s shag is about to see a big resurgence thanks to Ms. Gomez.
