Upper 70s and lower 80s today give way to much colder, but near normal, temperatures over the next 24 hours.

INDIANAPOLIS — Today is one for the record books. Truly rare warmth occurring for this time of year. In fact, this is one of only three days in Indianapolis with a high of 78° or warmer this late in the season since records began in 1871 - just missing the daily record high of 79° set just three years ago.

All of central Indiana hit the upper 70s and some locations hit the lower 80s, marking their warmest November temperature on record. Enjoy what's left of likely our warmest day until next spring.

This September-like air mass came with gusty wind and it remains breezy/balmy this evening with an increase in cloud cover from an approaching cold front.

Scattered showers develop along the front between 6 p.m - 8 p.m. this evening, but we don't expect widespread rain and/or heavy rain between now and early Thursday morning.

Temperatures Thursday will be nearly 25° colder for highs, but more typical for early November. Expect clouds in the morning and temps in the 40s with decreasing clouds and afternoon temperatures in the 50s with a brisk northwest wind.

We'll have some spectacular autumn days ahead with plenty of sunshine, seasonably chilly lows, and comfortable afternoons in the 50s into the weekend.
