The Pokemon Trading Card Game has found a range of was to adapt since its release back in 1996.
Players have been able to trade and collect a range of special cards, often with unique features and abilities.
It started with Dark Pokemon in the Rocket Set before adding the likes of EX, GX, Break, V/V-Max and many more different variants.
Now, it has just been revealed what the new gimmick is and it’s an expansion of the V/V-max idea, titled V-Union.
What are the Pokemon TCG V-Union cards?
So, V-Union cards are the newest iteration on the Pokemon TCG.
They require players to assemble four different parts of a single Pokemon to create on giant, incredibly powerful card.
There are special rules that come into place if you want to use the V-Union cards in battle.
They are as follows:
To play a V-Union Card, you need to play all 4 parts from your discard pile onto your bench.
When Pokémon-V-UNION has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 3 Prize cards.
They offer a high power option, with a high risk, affording your opponent three Prize Cards if they defeat your Pokemon.
It’s been pointed out that they look a lot like larger versions of the Legend and Break cards.
What Cards are Available?
Initially, there will be a total of three different Pokemon available as V-Union cards.
They are as follows:
- Mewtwo
- Greninja
- Zacian
According to Serebii, V-Union cards currently come in a small subset which “is made from three collectors boxes that give you each of the 4 cards necessary to make the V-Union card.”

How has Twitter Reacted to the New Cards?
Of course, the initial reaction was to compare the cards to Yu-Gi-Oh’s Exodia cards, due to the nature of connecting multiple cards together.
V-Unions are just Pokémon versions of Exodia Necross from Yu-Gi-Oh (Which functions from the graveyard when you assemble all it's pieces there)

. Just when I thought I left that game, it pulls me back
While some chose to mock the Yu-Gi-Oh like nature, others shared their frustrations.
Break cards were one of the worst gimmicks the ptcg had ever had and now they do a similar thing again but with FOUR card. Why?
