Latin urban singer Ozuna, 26, confirmed he was the victim of extortio
Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Ozuna has revealed that he was extorted by slain gay trap star Kevin Fret who threatened to release an explicit video of the star.
Ozuna's team confirmed Wednesday that he paid Fret $50,000 in 2017 after Fret threatened to release an 'intimate video' of Ozuna, now 26, that lawyers say was filmed when he was minor.
Fret, 24, was the world's first openly gay Latin trap artist who was shot dead earlier this month while riding a motorcycle in Puerto Rico.
Speculations that Ozuna, born Juan Carlos Ozuna Rosado, was involved in Fret's murder were shut down by his lawyer Antonio Sagardia who insisted that the singer had nothing to do with his death and assured that he is not suspected by police nor a person of interest.
Ozuna's label and management Dimelo Vi released a statement to Rolling Stones, saying: 'Our attorney confirmed yesterday that urban artist Ozuna was extorted through an intimate video filmed when he was a minor.
'This video was edited with the objective of causing even more damage. [During] the time of the extortion scheme, we filed a complaint and all the legal measures are being taken, as sending and publishing videos of minors is a state and federal offense.'
His team said the singer was extorted by murdered gay trap star Kevin Fret who threatened to release an 'intimate video' of the singer
Ozuna, a married father-of-two, has flooded American mainstream music with collaborations featuring rapper Cardi B, Selena Gomez and DJ Snake in their hit Taki Taki.
A video of the singer, credited as J-Ox, circulating online is believed to be from the 2011 gay porn film New York Sex Chronicles, which shows Ozuna- then 19 - masturbating alone. The video jumps to scenes of two to three other men engaging in sexual acts.
Ozuna himself is not seen with any other men, which the singer's team suggests was edited in a way to make it appear as if he was actively involved in gay porn.
It's not clear if this is the video of Ozuna that Fret allegedly threatened to release.
His lawyer Antonio Sagardia told DailyMail.com that the New York Sex Chronicles adult film is the only one of his knowledge.
'We hope that this will serve as an example and message to all teenagers and adults to protect their privacy and avoid these things so as to [avoid] such regrettable situations,' his team said.
Sagardia confirmed that the singer paid Fret the $50,000 in the summer of 2017 before contacting the FBI and Miami Police.
Ozuna himself released a statement along with the managements.

Fret, 24, was gunned down earlier this month in Puerto Rico and speculations were that Ozuna was involved, however his lawyer shut down the claims
The married father-of-two issued a statement asking for his family's forgiveness and calling the video a 'mistake of the past'
'What happened was a mistake of the past. Like many young people, I made a mistake, fueled by ignorance. Today, I'm not only sorry for what happened, but I condemn it. That's why I looked for help and I am certain everything will be cleared,' he said.
'Likewise, I'm following the process and am always willing to collaborate with authorities to prevent the evil that resulted from this big mistake. More importantly, I ask my family for forgiveness. They are my life's priority and I will continue to fight for them always,' he added.
