INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - At least one person is dead and several more have been injured in a crash on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Police responded to the crash on West 56th Street near Interstate 465 around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday. Police say three cars were involved in the crash.

Metro police have confirmed at least one fatality in the crash. Five people, three adults and two children, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the driver of a Mazda lost control of their vehicle for an unknown reason while traveling west on W. 56th Street. The car spun and was struck on the driver's side by an eastbound Yellow Cab minivan. The third vehicle struck the rear of the minivan.

The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash for the driver of the minivan or third vehicle involved. Toxicology tests will determine whether the deceased driver was under the influence.

A second, unrelated crash occurred a short distance away around the same time. Two vehicle were involved in that crash and police say one of those drivers fled the scene.
