If you’ve tried connecting to the Nintendo Switch Eshop these past few hours this October 12, you’ve noticed the servers are down – There’s actually nothing wrong, don’t panic – a planned server maintenance is currently underway and an estimated ending time was announced through Twitter.

On a very rare occurrence, the Nintendo Eshop is currently going under server maintenance. Which means you won’t be able to access it to buy games or redeem codes. However, you can still access Nintendo Switch Online just fine, including online multiplayer modes in games.

Moreover, this is a worldwide server maintenance, and regardless of the region of your Nintendo account, you’ll be unable to access the Eshop. In case you didn’t know, some games are slightly cheaper digitally in certain regions. Some other games are exclusive to Japan and its Eshop, so many Switch users, myself included, regularly change the region of their accounts.

When is the Nintendo Eshop maintenance ending (October 12, 2021)

The Nintendo Customer Support Japanese official Twitter re-anounced the maintenance a few hours ago, revealing its schedule. The Nintendo Eshop maintenance started at 00:30 AM EST, and will last until 4 AM EST. Click here for other time zones and a countdown.

Keep in mind it’s possible the maintenance will be extended and will possibly end a few minutes after the estimated time. The Nintendo Customer Support Twitter account will keep us updated.

Note that Nintendo did not plan for a system update of the Nintendo Switch, however, one update might be planned soon. Especially with the arrival of Nintendo 64 games to Nintendo Switch Online. We’ll be sure to tell you if it happens.
