Nigerian man Noel Ifeanyi wins $10,000 Global Award, becomes first African winner since 1914

Noel Ifeanyi Alumona, a brilliant Nigerian man, defeated more than 500 competitors to win the $10,000 cash award and the AFS Prize for Young Global Citizens.
Noel Ifeanyi Alumona, who is a student at Vanderbilt University in the United States, received the honor during International Youth Day, which was held at the United Nations’ headquarters in New York, United States, and organized by the AFS Intercultural Programs, The Youth Assembly, and the Global Communications Department of the UN.
He was honored for his tenacious work to end violence against women and girls by teaching boys how to act responsibly.
The AFS Prize honors young people from all over the world who have dedicated themselves to bettering the world and fostering a just, peaceful, and tolerant society.

Noel Ifeanyi of Nigeria took home the top honor, but Mariana Reyes of the United States and Larissa Cevallos of Peru came in second place, each taking home a $2,500 reward.
After a lengthy and difficult selection process that included interviews from which 10 finalists were chosen, Noel Ifeanyi defeated 500 competitors. Also, he was an African Leaders 2018 Obama Foundation Fellow.
