Over the years, the Mexican Grand Prix has become one of the fan favorites of the Formula 1 season. Held at the Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, it witnesses arguably the more passionate of attendees, as the crowds fill the grandstands in a bid to cheer for the local hero, Sergio “Checo” Perez. After a decade-long absence from the F1 calendar, it has now become a consistent part of the sport, with a new renewal deal solidifying its place till at least 2025.

As Formula 1 has focused on its strategy to attract new fans to the sport through a “content driven” plan, more and more people have started following the pinnacle of motorsport, and Mexico is no different. The event has always been a huge success for the organizers and Formula 1, with the 2022 iteration set to break the attendance records as we have already seen over 108,000 fans attending on Friday, a jump of 11,000 over the previous year.

Mexican fans love Formula 1 and are crazy for the sport

With the fanfare for Sergio Perez, we see a growing passion for his team, Red Bull, as fans look to see their local driver compete for the win at his home race. Thus the Mexicans did not shy away from expressing their love for Checo and the team in a rather interesting way during the GP weekend. On Saturday, a few attendees were accompanied by what seemed like members of the Red Bull team themselves in a curious appearance to say the least.

The Red Bull “Fantastic Four” spotted on Saturday

The Qualifying session at the Mexican GP witnessed a few unique attendees–cardboard figures of the Red Bull team personnel, featuring Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, Helmut Marko, Christian Horner, and more. This was appreciated by Red Bull’s social media team in a tweet. And some fans were delighted, with a user commenting, “THE LAUGH I JUST LET OUT COULD BE HEARD ALL AROUND [THE] WORLD.” Another fan nicknamed the figures as, “Mummy Marko Presidente Perez Muscleman Max, Cowboy Christian.” One user was even interested in purchasing such figures saying, “when these going on sale?”

Other fans however differed in opinion, with many calling for Red Bull to delete the post, one user replied, “DELETE. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE ASKING YOU TO DELETE.” While many questioned the admin’s actions, one asking for an explanation, tweeting, “ADMIN EXPLAIN I SWEAR.” Another user said, “Pay for my therapy rn admin.” Even though some users found it difficult to forget this picture from their heads, many were hysterical though we are not sure what the drivers feel about it.

In other news, a huge task lies ahead of Red Bull on Sunday as Sergio Perez needs to surpass thetwo Mercedes, who have proven to be very fast this weekend, to go for the race win. And as for Max Verstappen, he has to work hard to put an end to the “Mexican GP curse” which says it is not the pole sitters, but the P3 drivers in the starting grid, who win the race title in Mexico City.
