Mom charged with neglect and DUI after 'leaving four children aged nine to nine months home alone'

A mother-of-four is facing charges of neglect and DUI after allegedly leaving her children home alone while she went to work and drank at a bar.

Police were called Perla Aguilar's house in southwest Oklahoma just after 1.30am on Sunday to check on her four young children - aged five, eight, nine and nine-months-old - who were allegedly left home alone.

The eldest child, nine, told officers she was left to care for her siblings and claimed Aguilar, 27, was at a bar and leaves them at home 'all the time', according to News9.

The girl left in charge reportedly tried to feed her nine-month-old sibling pizza and told officers that she did not know what she should feed the baby.

Master Sergant Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department, told the TV station: 'The 9-year-old was somewhat overwhelmed, unable to take care of the others.'

According to police, Aguilar then arrived home and told officers she had been drinking alcohol at the bar where she works and that it was normal for her to drink while working.

Police claimed she was intoxicated and was 'slurring' her speech when she arrived at the house, where she allegedly told officers that she does this 'all the time'.

Police arrested Aguilar on complaints on DUI and child neglect and she was taken to Oklahoma County Detention Center at around 4.30am on Sunday.

Aguilar is facing charges of child neglect and driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to jail records.

She has not yet been formally charged by the Oklahoma County district attorney, according to local media reports.

The children have been placed in the care of another family member, who drove from Texas to collect them.
