MCU Canceled 2 Major Tobey Maguire and Emma Stone Moment From Spider-Man’s Fight Scene With Doctor Strange in No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home fulfilled one of the oldest desires of Marvel fans who always fantasized about watching the three web-slingers together in action. The audiences were overjoyed when their favorite Spider-Men appeared in the movie to aid Tom Holland’s hero. But there could be more as new details reveal how we were also set to spot their universes in the 2021 blockbuster.
According to concept artist Phil Saunders, Spider-Man: No Way Home was also set to feature the universes of Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s Spidey. However, we only ended up with all the veteran Spider-Men and their iconic villains in Tom Holland’s universe. But had things gone differently, we could have seen Holland’s wall-crawler and Doctor Strange in their universes.

What are the scenes canceled by MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home?
There are uncountable scenes that were cut or canceled from the billion-dollar MCU movie. As one of the most important Marvel projects, Spider-Man: No Way Home had many plans and implemented several changes before we saw the final cut. Although what we got was almost perfect, some initial plans for the movie could have taken the movie in a different direction.
Recently, concept artist Phil Saunders revealed that initial plans included a multiversal fight sequence between Doctor Strange and Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man. The extraordinary scene would have featured the superheroes going through iconic scenes of Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s movies.
“One early idea for Spidey and Dr. Strange’s chase through the multiverse was to have them battle over the source of the spell (in this early version the Book of Vishanti) through scenes from the previous movies.”
A scene that was thought of included the two superheroes fighting in the wrestling ring shown in Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man. Following that, there were also plans to feature the two superheroes on the infamous clock tower from Andrew Garfield‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It would have reminded the viewers of the fateful night of the death of Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy.
However, none of the scenes could make it to the final cut and instead, we saw a fight through mirror dimensions. Not only these two but several other scenes could also never make it to the final cut. It can be said that Sony and Marvel didn’t want to spoil the cameos beforehand and chose not to implement the multiversal fight sequence.
The deleted No Way Home scenes could have changed the movie
It can’t be denied that the deleted sequences could have completely changed the course of the movie. Although we got a good hit of nostalgia when several iconic dialogues and moments were witnessed by our favorite heroes and villains in the Jon Watts directorial, a revisit to the iconic locations would have hit even harder.
Phil Saunders also added that he was excited about this plan of planting our MCU superheroes in the classic Spider-Man movies.
“We were given a couple of days to play with that idea, taking screen caps from the movies and painting in Spidey and Doc. I liked the idea of taking the familiar shots and shifting the gravity and POV so that the characters would be in a completely different orientation than the action.”
In several earlier reports, we have also seen how many scenes were altered. A scene even had a hint about Maguire and Garfield’s return to the MCU. Even though No Way Home was mesmerizing and was a perfect dream-come-true moment for the fans, we can’t stop to think how the movie would have looked with the alternate sequences.
