Marvin Harrison and North Philadelphia – NBC Sports Philadelphia

GQ has an incredible piece on former Colts receiver Marvin Harrison, his journey out of North Philadelphia, how he could never really escape the rough streets he grew up on, and how he never really wanted to. It opens up with one witness's account of Marvin Harrison pulling two guns and unloading on a man he had been arguing with -- legitimately frightening stuff.

It goes on to tell incredible details about those events as well as the violent history Harrison's family has had in the past (two of his half brothers were guilty of murder). Almost as much as it is a story about Marvin Harrison, it's a story about Philadelphia. We learn, for instance, what exactly a Philly cop deems a "piece of shit" and how a crime with seemingly so much evidence is far from prosecutable. A must read for any fan of sports or the city of Philadelphia.
