Man United’s Harry Maguire ‘devastated’ as he loses captaincy

Harry Maguire confirmed on Sunday that he would no longer be the Manchester United team captain after discussions with manager, Erik Ten Hag.

“After discussions with the manager today, he has informed me that he is changing captain. He explained his reasoning to me, and while I’m personally devastated, I will continue to give my all every time I put on the shirt,” Maguire tweeted.

“So I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the Manchester United fans for their incredible support while I was wearing the armband.”

“It’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United since the day I took over three and a half years ago, and one of the proudest moments of my career to date. It is one of the most prestigious honours in club football. I’ve done everything I could to help United succeed, both on and off the pitch.

“I shall be eternally thankful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for first entrusting me with the task, and I wish whoever takes it on success and my complete support,” Maguire wrote.

Harry Maguire joined the Red Devils from Leicester City in 2019 and has made 118 appearances for the club.
