‘Lord of the rings’: Singer Mo’Cheddah recounts mockery over 10-year courtship with husband

Nigerian rapper and singer, Modupe-Oreoluwa Oyeyemi Ola, known by her stage name Mo’Cheddah, has opened up on how she was mocked for dating her husband for 10 years before marriage.

The singer disclosed this in an interview with podcast host, Taymesan, on his podcast, Tea With Tay. According to Mo’Cheddah, her nickname before marriage was “lord of the rings”, in reference to how long she’d been with one man, because she dated her husband for so long before marriage.

Mo’Cheddah, who met her husband at the age of seventeen, spoke about how music connected her with her partner. She disclosed that Osagie, who was once a manager to afrobeats star, Wizkid, introduced her to him, though at that time she was solely focused on her career. However, according to the artiste, her heart softened when she got to know him and he taught her how to be happy without seeking validation from others.

Speaking about her wedding, the mother of one revealed that there were no camera phones allowed at her wedding, to keep everything as intimate as possible.

In her words, “I started dating when I was 17. I met my husband through music, Osagie introduced us, though at that time, I didn’t want to date.

“They use to call me Lord of the Rings because we dated for so long. That was my nickname at some point.

“When I got to know myself, I was happy in real life. That’s what my husband taught me. I didn’t need to show people that I was happy. Didn’t need their validation.

Speaking about her personal life, Mo’Cheddah stated, “I love my private life and I don’t share it. There was no phone at my wedding. Me and my husband didn’t live together before marriage and we were together for 10 years”.

Mo’Cheddah married her husband, Prince Bukunyi Olateru Olagbegi, in May 2018. They welcomed their first child, a girl in 2021.
