Dickens, who is a former British champion at 126lbs, outpointed Lerato Dlamini in his home city to win the lesser regarded IBO belt last October.
The 32-year-old was a big favourite heading into his first defence and he hoped an impressive win would set up a potential rematch with WBA world champion Leigh Wood or a clash with Josh Warrington.
'Jazza' also had one eye on the three other title-holders at 126lbs, but he ended up suffering a brutal knockout loss at Dubai Studio City.
Dickens ran onto a big right hand that put him to sleep in round 10.

“Oh, no. He’s gone,” one of the commentators shouted when Dickens fell statuesque to the floor, while others working the broadcast admired the Knockout of the Year contender.
Sosa immediately began sprinting around the ring to celebrate the biggest win of his career which had included 15 wins, eight knockouts, and two defeats before he fought Dickens.
However, the referee immediately told him to calm down and sent him to a neutral corner so doctors could tend to the Englishman who didn't move in the moments after his fifth career loss.
Sosa soon realised the seriousness of the situation and dropped to his knees to seemingly pray for his stricken opponent to make a speedy recovery.

Thankfully, Dickens was soon back on his feet and later took to Instagram to reassure fans he was okay.

Ahead of his 37th professional fight, Dickens bemoaned the fact he has been unable to secure big-name opponents.
“If I weren’t as good as I am, these people would be using me as a stepping stone,” Dickens told Boxing News.
“Instead, they try and step around me.
“If I had the (promotional) backing other fighters have had, it would be different. I’d be in a much better position."
