Jarnette Olsen was born on February 16, 1954, in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, which is situated in the US state of California. She is the daughter of David Jones, a teacher; and Mary Jones, an accountant. She is of the Christian religion and her nationality is American.

She attended a local school and was active in many extracurricular activities. She finished her schooling in 1972.

Jarnette Olsen began her career as a professional ballet dancer, wowing audiences at various renowned events. She had a penchant for acting and performing from her school days, gaining recognition in 1993 with Our First Video directed by WL Boy and Rick Friedberg.

Jarnette and David Olsen established Dualstar, a business that produced an expansive variety of Olsen twin films, books, merchandise, and more via Nylon. According to Cosmopolitan, the Dualstar Entertainment Group sold $1 billion worth of merchandise per year online in Walmart. So it was a huge success.

David and Jarnette Olsen both took on the role of co-managers for their daughters. However, things got complicated when their relationship deteriorated. David and Jarnette subsequently announced their divorce. The cause for the divorce was not unconnected to his plans to marry his secretary. The couple parted ways after 18 years of marriage in 1996, with David marrying his secretary McKenzie Olsen in the same year.

A custody battle threatened to separate the young twins, leaving them in a difficult position. Mary-Kate was said to be a “daddy’s girl” and attended her father’s second marriage, while Ashley, labelled as a “mama’s girl”, chose to skip it.
