It's Been HOW Long? Ladies, Let's Talk About Dry Spells.

Can you remember the last time you had sex? How long ago was it? A day, two weeks... six months? If you've found yourself flipping through your calendar to recall, you might be suffering from a—gasp—dry spell.

Let's take a second and loathe the dreaded dry spell. It's like when you're on a diet but all you want is that fricken piece of chocolate cake (like the one from Matilda. Do you guys REMEMBER that??). You know? But there's no shame in falling off that horse (horse being Dudes of America). We can't be fluffy-hair-sporting, lingerie-wearing, make-a-man-melt-in-seconds ready all the time. Heck, I suffered a pretty lengthy dry spell right before I started dating J. We're all friends here, right? Alright. It lasted… just about a year! Well, eleven months and six days… but who's counting. Heh. I won't say it was by choice, but I was definitely a lot pickier with my dates. I will say: my vibrating friend got a lot of action. Not a weird amount of action… but there were batteries that needed changing. Whatever.

But then I met J and sexy time felt like all the time for us. Ah, the honeymoon stage. We're talking sex every single day, multiple times a day. We were both sa-tis-fied. But I was kind of worried when we were about to move in together: would the sex become nonstop? Could I handle even more sex? Like, would I be able to walk?

And then a surprising thing happened. J moved in and we discovered that dry spells can occur for cohabiting couples, too (shocking, I know). My live-in boyfriend and I actually started having sex less frequently than we used to. Maybe it was the comfort of knowing there'd be tomorrow or maybe it was the extra workload we both took on at our jobs ("babe, I'm so tired…"), but there was no doubt about it. We were experiencing a dry spell. What used to be a daily occurrence was now only happening weekly (as in… Saturday night, let's have wine and sex!). I'm not saying there's something abnormal with 1x a week, but it was definitely not normal for us.
