Singer Catherine Janice a.k.a Cat Janice became viral on TikTok due to the song Dance You Outta My Head. While the singer had been working on music since she was a kid, her final song made her quite famous. Cat Janice released the song independently in January 2024, saying that all the proceeds from the song would go to her son.

Janice’s first EP was in 2014, which she mentioned has since been taken down and was just her playing the piano. She then recorded her album Fire, which reportedly had a more Southern Rock sound. Cat Janice also mentioned that her DJ mother and home-schooling background exposed her to a lot of music and helped her develop her style (via District Fray magazine).

Cat Janice had been battling cancer since 2022 when she was diagnosed with sarcoma after feeling a lump in her neck. She said that she had recovered from COVID-19 and that she felt the lump much later as she was anxiously rubbing her neck. According to Today, she said,

“I was studying for an exam and when I’m anxious I kind of rub my neck … and I noticed the lump was still there…Long story short, I ended up with this really random, weird rare tumor … I never would have noticed if I hadn’t been anxiously rubbing my neck.”

While under treatment, Janice began working on a new album, Modern Medicine. The lump was reportedly removed after chemotherapy, but the cancer returned to her lungs. By January 2024, she was reportedly in hospice and released her most popular song.
