Holiday train making annual trip through Indiana Saturday

The train will travel through Goshen, Elkhart, Mishawaka, South Bend and La Porte before leaving the state.

INDIANA, USA — Another sure sign the holiday season is upon us, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will travel through northern Indiana this weekend.

The train, which uses the Norfolk Southern train line, will be heading west from Detroit to Chicago early Saturday, Nov. 25, according to WNDU. The train will travel through Goshen, Elkhart, Mishawaka, South Bend and La Porte before heading out of the state and into Illinois.

The train often runs late, but is expected to roll through the area between midnight at 4 a.m. Saturday. 

WNDU Meteorologist Andrew Whitmyer shared maps and other information about the train's route on Facebook.

Those who head out to view the train are reminded to keep a safe distance from the tracks - at least 50 feet away.

The brightly lit train features professional musicians, who perform free concerts from a stage on the train. Canadian Pacific donates to local food banks at each stop along its tour in the United States and Canada.

According to Canadian Pacific, the holiday train, which started in 1999, "raises money, food and awareness for the important work that food banks do in their communities." The train has raised more than $22.5 million and over five million pounds of food for food banks in North America.
