Quick Plot

To date, there have only been 3 Streets Of Rage games released worldwide and they were all originally for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis. Namely the games were called Streets Of Rage, Streets Of Rage 2 and Streets Of Rage 3.

Streets Of Rage 2 picks up from where Streets Of Rage 1 left us. Mr. X has returned to the city and has brought over even more criminals and gangs to terrorize the city. With a revenge plot in mind, he kidnaps Adam to lure Axel and Blaze into his evil hands. When Axel and Blaze discover their friend has been kidnapped, Axel recruited his wrestling friend Max, and Adam's brother Skate, to join forces on a rescue mission to save Adam and stop Mr. X once and for all.

Streets Of Rage 2 has been met with positive feedback and is considered the favorite among all of the Streets Of Rage games. It changes the style of game-play compared to the first Streets Of Rage and it includes new features such as characters, enemies, level designs and lots more. The music has been strongly praised as well.

Now you can witness the classical game once again on the XBox 360!

My Hints & Tips

Firstly, and most importantly, I recommend you check the controls before you even start the game. If you have played SVC: Streets Of Rage, you will notice the chosen default controls are changed between the 2 versions. To be honest, since I completed this stand-alone game first before SVC: Streets Of Rage, I preferred the chosen controllers on this. But it's up to you, assign any button to whatever you fancy, but make sure it's comfortable.

Characters

There are 4 characters you can choose from in the game, each character has strengths and weaknesses. Some characters will be more superior than others when it comes to enemies, attacks, defenses and speed.

Game-play

The top-left side of the screen is your energy bar. As you get hit or use your Special Attack, your energy will be drained. If it runs out of yellow completely, you will lose a life. Lose all of your lives and you will either have to use a Continue or it's Game Over. The amount of continues you have will vary depending upon what options you have chosen in the game.

To replenish health you will need to either complete a certain part of a level, complete a level or find food in dumpsters, boxes, items etc. There are only 2 types of food in the game: the Apple will restore 1/4 of your health and the Chicken will restore all of your health.

Above the health bar is the score chart. This shows you how many points you've earned in the game. You get points by defeating enemies, completing levels, grabbing items and other sources.

Like other side scrolling beat 'em up games, you have a time limit at the top of the screen. If the timer runs out, you will lose a life. If you complete a level, pass a certain area or lose a life, the timer will reset back to 99.

The enemies in this game will have the same health bar as yourself, although most of them will have far less health. Once their health has been reduced to red, they will be defeated. As you advance in the game, the enemies will get stronger and will have blue health bars instead of yellow. In this case you'll have to keep on attacking the enemy until the blue bar turns into yellow and then keep on attacking until they are defeated. If the enemy has a star as well as a blue health bar, it means they have even more energy and require more attack power to be defeated.

If you see any dumpsters, crates, boxes or anything that's breakable, use your attack power to damage the items and figure out if there's anything inside. Food will replenish health, weapons can be used to defeat enemies and Moneybags and Gold Bars will increase the amount of your total points.

By default, the amount of lives you can see the highest on your screen is 9. If you however, get additional lives, it will remain at 9, but they will still be counted. For instance if you get an extra 2 lives giving you 11, it will stay at 9 until you lose 3 lives.

If you defeat all of the enemies at a dead end point, chances are you will be automatically moved to another area in the level. Make sure you grab all the items you want, as there will be no going back.

Controls

Each character can perform a special attack. This is extremely useful if you want to knock out a bunch of enemies at the same time or if you have a strong enemy to defeat. The drawback is that you will lose health for each special attack you use. You cannot use a special attack if your health is extremely low. You can change the special attacks by pressing the special attack button without using the cn_LS.

Each character can also perform a dash attack. The dash attack is extremely useful for when you have to play on the harder difficulties. To do a dash attack, double tap the cn_LS and the attack button at the same time (by default it's cn_X).

You can perform a jump attack by pressing the jump button and then the attack button afterwards.

You can use weapons to defeat enemies as well, but if you get hit you will drop the item. Alternatively, you can throw the weapon in the direction you're facing by pressing the Jump and Attack Buttons at the same time. If you throw a waepon off-screen though, there is a chance that it will disappear and you will not see it again. If you get attacked too many times after grabbing and holding a weapon a few times, the weapon will fade away.

Sometimes your character may grapple an enemy. If this is the case you can either press the attack button to perform a powerful move or use the cn_LS to change direction of the grapple. If you are caught in a grapple, you can either use your cn_LS to wiggle out of it or try attacking the enemy. This can be used with stronger characters. If an enemy has grappled you and has decided to throw you, you can attempt to survive the attack by pressing cn_LSu. You'll need to time it right otherwise it won't work.
