Time for the capital! This region is certainly one of the best in the game. Until you get lost, then you might end up hating it. Hopefully that doesn't happen, though, because a couple of really great bosses lie here. The first job of this location is to reach it, which you may not have done yet. It is accessed from Altus Plateau so go there, specifically to the Altus Highway Junction Grace if you have it, if not Erdtree Gazing Hill works nicely. You need to follow the main path in Altus Plateau that leads east into Leyndell, aiming for this location:

Image 1

The map fragment is right there too. You need to go up the stairs that lead there, and I recommend avoiding everything and just sprinting for the Grace past the wall in the screenshot above. There is a double Tree Sentinel at the top of the stairs, but if you lead them through the gate, they despawn. Once you reach the Grace, the map is right there along with two Golden Seeds. If you continue North up the stairs, a Twin Blade Gargoyle spawns. If you hate Gargoyle bosses in this game as much as I do, avoid the stairs and instead go west a bit and head up that way. Eventually, you come to another golden tree with another two Golden Seeds. Even if you had zero going into Leyndell, you now have enough for a flask upgrade. Anyway, ignore the stairs to the east leading to a door, it doesn't open. Instead, keep going north. You hear someone who sounds familiar say "I see thee, Tarnished". It's Margit. No, really. This time, Margit is optional, but you might enjoy destroying him to make up for the pain from the first fight. Anyway, just keep heading north, as far north as you can go in Leyndell. There are some giant archers along the way, but I found they were distracted and didn't even notice me slip past. Once you're all the way north, head east to see a Tree Sentinel guarding a door. This one is unavoidable, unfortunately. You get 50,000 runes out of it, though, not a bad deal. The mimic tear makes this one easy if you're a magic build. With both of you spamming spells, it doesn't know who to target, just watch out when an attack comes for you. You have time to heal because the mimic constantly takes his attention. This fight is easy. The door behind him leads to a new Grace and the entrance into Leyndell via a lift. There are no enemies between here and the next Grace and the path is linear, so I won't guide you here. At this next Grace, rest at it and Melina speaks with you. Once that is over, continue forward and you get the text telling you you've arrived at Leyndell.

The first enemies you encounter wield horns. They're quite weak and don't hit hard, so run through them. There's a bigger one ahead that you can just spam attacks on, and it never gets the chance to retaliate. The fire breathing enemy ahead can be taken out with two casts of Loretta's Greatbow if you have it equipped. The next room has one enemy in it and some stairs leading down. There is a lift ahead, use it. This is where Leyndell gets hard. There is a fair stretch of enemies in the way before you get another Grace to respawn at. I recommend running through everything. Don't kill enemies, it takes too long and dying anywhere here means going all the way back to the area before the horn enemies. The first room isn't too bad. There is an enemy here that does next to nothing and can go down in one hit. Once you continue and go down the stairs and enter the room on the left, things get tricky. A decent number of enemies are in this room, then through the door is a knight with gold armour, then once you're on the main path there is an Erdtree Avatar mini boss. Even if you took my advice and ignored enemies, you still probably take a magic attack once or twice. Once you run past the Erdtree Avatar, there is a door on the right that leads to the next Grace, Avenue Balcony. If you want to go back and fight that Erdtree Avatar now that you have a respawn point, it is very worthwhile if you can manage it. He drops 50k runes as well as a Lord's Rune, which is worth an additional 50k.

Head down and through the next door to see an archer in the distance. Dip to the left and jump onto the roof and drop down to the northwest. Find the well that is here and descend the ladder down. Open the door on the left and drop down. From here it is only one path, watch out for the rats along the way. Once you get the text confirmation you're in the next area, drop down and sprint through an open door on the left for the next Grace.

Down here is the thing I mentioned at the beginning, a way of locking yourself into an ending. It is pretty difficult to stumble onto accidentally, but be aware that once the boss down here is down, just leave. The ending is one of the three required for an achievement, but it is the one you need to do last.

This is definitely an area where you want a video (Stop following it at roughly 6:25):

…but as always the text guide is here if you want it. Come out of the room with the Grace and head northeast. On the left side is a hole in the ground you need to drop into. Turn left and go forward, looking out for an opening into a pipe on the right side. Once in the pipe, watch out for holes that you can fall down and carry on running through it. Ignore the left turn and carry on going forward. Once the pipe slants upwards, watch for the hole at the top, and take a right at the next turn. Again, ignore the turn and carry on in the same direction when the slugs leap out. There is an enemy above a ladder next, wait for it to hop down then take the ladder up. In the next room, look right towards the gate and find the lever to open it. This leads back to the Grace so you don't have to traverse that pipe again if you die. After that is done, carry on and once in the next room, look left and drop onto the stairs below. Descend them and go into the room on the right. The next bit is fairly self-explanatory until you come to some stairs on the left side. Go down the stairs and loop around underneath. You are back in a pipe, take the first right. When you see a frog-looking enemy, run straight past it, ignoring the right turn, then take the right turn after it. This leads to a room with a sole enemy. Climb the ladder, open the door ahead and the Grace from earlier is in front of you. You've unlocked another shortcut. Go back and reset at the Grace, then come back through the door. On the other end of the wooden bridge on the right is a pipe you need to hop onto. Follow it all the way around then at the highest point, drop down to the left. Find your way through the door then kick the ladder down on the left. Don't bother taking it down, it leads back to somewhere you've already been. Instead jump into the pipe ahead. Follow it around and when you have the choice to go left or forward, continue forward and hop over the hole. There is a giant rat ahead. Either run around it or kill it, then take the left turn and fall down the hole ahead. Turn around, go down, round the corner and descend down the ladder. Take the elevator on the right down to a Grace ahead.

No matter if you used the video or the text guide, you should be in the Forsaken Depths now. There is a boss down those steps ahead, but there is also an item that makes him easier. Fast travel back to underground roadside, take the door ahead. This time jump down onto the pipe that is immediately on the right as soon as you go through the door, then jump again onto the next pipe. Look for a pipe that makes it safe to drop down. The best way for me to help you find it is a screenshot:

Image 1

Jump down safely to the bottom and head southeast. A giant lobster-looking enemy jumps you. Quickly dip into the room on your right and find the Leyndell Catacombs Grace to reset its position, then go back out there and find Mohg's Shackle behind it. Go back to the Grace, rest there, and fast travel back to Forsaken Depths, and you're now ready to fight Mohg. Take the stairs down and go through to the boss fight.

Mohg, the Omen:

If I'm honest, this one took me way longer than it should've. Despite having an item to chip off a third of the health with no effort, I still had issues with this fight for some reason. I think it is because despite having a fairly basic moveset, any mistakes are heavily punished. He hits hard. At this point I'm at 30 Vigor and that's probably not enough for this one unless you're good enough to avoid almost every attack, and I certainly am not. Anyway, the tips:

  • When you traverse the mist, stand still while summoning in Mimic and subsequently healing. If you move forward at all, he charges instantly, but I've found if you stand still, he attacks the wall for some reason. That is enough time to get Mimic in and be back to full health ready for the fight.
  • You can use the shackle item twice. Use it when close up for max damage and you might even want to wait for Mimic to spawn fully so you have two people attacking.
  • His longest combo can go for 2-4 attacks. The first is a swing, the second is a staggered swing where he lunges forwards, the third is another quick swing and the fourth is a slam down into the ground. If this last one happens, punish, the combo is 100% guaranteed to be over. Sometimes he stops before then, though.
  • His other kind of attack uses blood. He throws it towards you, and it leaves fire on the floor where it landed too. This is the most annoying attack. I found rolling it to be inconsistent at best and even if I did successfully roll it, I'd still take a bit of damage from the fire. His other blood attacks are one where he throws a ball of blood, for lack of a better term, and one other where he makes it rain blood in a particular spot. Neither are that bad.
  • Bleed isn't as effective as usual here. He appears to be resistant to it (makes sense), but it still does work. He's resistant but not immune.
  • Be patient. While this is a tip that can apply to pretty much any boss, this one in particular can punish getting greedy. If there's no time to land a hit before the next attack, don't attack, and wait it out. I died more than once getting greedy.

You get 100,000 runes for beating Mohg, access to the chest in his room with an Erdtree's Favor +1 Talisman, and the achievement:

Now leave. There's more to be done down here, but it is the last thing you do in this game for the sake of achievements. Fast travel back to Avenue Balcony, and now you have to find your way to West Capital Rampart. The quickest way there from Avenue Balcony is heading down the stairs, towards the place with the archer you were earlier, but instead of jumping off, go to the end where the archer is and to the left is a huge thing you can climb. I say thing because I genuinely don't know what it is. At the top you can drop down to an area with a ladder.

Image 1

Climb the ladder, go up the stairs, avoid the enemies here and eventually there is a Grace on the left. Rest at it then continue. You should see a Gargoyle and a golden tree. Sprint over there, grab the Golden Seed, then climb onto the tree root and start heading up. There are quite a few enemies on the root, but they're weak and you can run straight past if you like. At the top, go through into the next room and into a boss fight.

Godfrey, First Elden Lord:

This fight is a little tricky but has nothing on some of the things you've already done. In fact, I'd say the boss you just did, Mohg, is harder than this one, but we all have different experiences. This boss has some decent combos for sure, but he is so slow. If you use a spell that casts quickly, you can get three or four hits in as he walks towards you. This fight is simple if you consistently put distance between yourself and the boss and fire off range attacks, then repeat. In the video linked below, our old pal Tyrannicon found a way of forcing him into repeating the same two moves over and over by using a bow, but I didn't even need that. I just used magic and the Hoarfrost Stomp, which is in the lake next to Caria Manor in Liurnia as a reward for killing the invisible bug thing by following the footsteps and attacking. This move was recently heavily nerfed, but I still find it effective, especially on this boss and the next one. Here is the Tyrannicon video:

And, to be honest, this Godfrey boss doesn't need any more tips than that. Use either my or Tyrannicon's strategy and take him down in a few minutes for 80,000 runes, another Talisman pouch and the achievement:

That talisman pouch is a fantastic reward, by the way. Don't forget to equip something with the extra slot. Anyway, in Godfrey's boss room, after touching the Grace, head out east and climb onto the tree root again. Go up to arrive on the second floor of this room. There is going to be another boss pretty much immediately, making it three in rapid succession. There is only one enemy here that is alive. Ignore all the corpses, they aren't going to get up or anything like it's Resident Evil. The sole enemy here is a quite annoying one at the top of the steps. He's insanely fast and his combos seem never ending, but you can spam attacks and get him in a loop fairly easily. You probably have the vigor to take three or four hits if he does get some off. He doesn't respawn which is nice, but the reward is next to nothing so you can just head behind him straight to the Grace if you like. Either way, once you are safe, equip Margit's Shackle back into your quick item bar. This is going to have use again. Climb up the steps ahead into the next fight.

Morgott, the Omen King:

Image 1

Looks familiar, right? Yeah, it is Margit, again. The third time now. This time, though, he goes by another name. I'm not sure if he is really Margit or Morgott, I am assuming he is the later and Margit is the alias, but that isn't important. What's important is that he is stronger this time around. He has some of the same moves, with added attacks to the combos, as well as some entirely new ones. Margit's Shackle still works twice in phase one, just like the original fight, so you can use this to get a third or maybe even half of the health gone in an instant. If you grabbed the Hoarfrost Stomp earlier and slapped it on something that is upgraded at least +15, it just seems to destroy Morgott. A mix of this, the shackle, and the mimic tear helped me beat him first try. Despite the fact you might find him easy with those three tips alone, I still offer some more just in case something doesn't work out for you.

  • Firstly, the new moves. There is a move where he drops swords from the air in a star formation. They are easy to avoid by getting rid of the lock on for a second and looking up to see where they are.
  • He has two moves with his new spear; one where he throws it, and one where he charges towards you. Well-timed rolls avoid both of these easily, and the latter is easily punished with a hit or two as well.
  • His sword can glow red and he either slashes twice quickly or thrusts forward doing an animation where he impales you then throws you back down.
  • You can summon Melina for this fight apparently, just outside the mist. I somehow completely missed it.
  • It can be useful to use a shield if you have good stamina. One of his combos is absolutely crazy and seems to go forever. Doing that many perfect rolls consecutively can be really hard, blocking would be much easier.
  • At half health he drops to one knee. Quickly run away because he does an attack here that has decent range and damage.
  • The second phase isn't that different. The only thing I found was that his weapons seem to create circles on the floor that damage you when said weapons slam down.

Hopefully you find Morgott as pitiful as I did. The reward for beating him is huge, as you might expect at this stage of the game: 120,000 runes, his remembrance and his great rune. This is one of the remembrances you might not want to sell. I didn't care for the weapon that has quite high stat requirements, but the item for 5000 runes is one I did grab and put in the quickbar. Anyway, you also unlock an achievement:

You aren't done here just yet. The game doesn't let you leave until you climb the stairs ahead, interact with the seal, come back down and rest at the grace. Malenia turns up again and tells you to go to the Mountaintop of the Giants, which we do later. For now, you need to grab the last missable legendary. Head back to the Godfrey boss room, Erdtree Sanctuary, and this time head to the west exit and down the lift ahead. Once at the bottom, you should see a giant, golden spear sticking out directly ahead of you. You need to jump onto this, climb it and grab the legendary weapon:

Image 1

This is Bolt of Gransax [Legendary Armament 6/9]. There are only three left, two are in Moutaintop of the Giants and the other is the reward for finishing the Ranni questline.

Before ending the Leyndell page, you need to do one more thing. It feels really out of place, considering it is in Liurnia, but I wanted you to beat a specific boss before doing it for safety reasons. Head here:

Image 1

The NPC Varre is here. Talk to him, say "It didn't seem right" and he gives you five Festering Bloody Fingers. These are used to invade other players' worlds. You have to do this three times. Don't worry, you don't need to win. You could even simply leave as soon as you reach someone else's world and that counts. As long as three of the five fingers you were given are used, nothing else matters. Speak to him after doing this and he gives you another task if you say, "Anoint me". You need to soak a cloth in maiden's blood. In order to do that, go here:

Image 1

You find a dead maiden there. After soaking the cloth, return to Varre and offer him your finger. You get bloody finger, and then Pureblood Knight's Medal. Varre says you have to wait for an audience with Mohg, but you can just ignore him and use the item to go to Mohgwyn's Palace. The map fragment is directly ahead, then the first Grace a little further.

Improved rune farm:

This is almost certainly getting patched, because it can give you 11,000 runes every 10 seconds or so, and even more than that on NG+. Click the video below and sort comments by newest, there are always people saying it still works if it does, and if it doesn't, you'll see one saying it was patched.

Now let's get to Mohg. This is the real Mohg fight. Everything you saw in Forsaken Depths is simply the first phase, but you don't even need to fight him. From the Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance, it is a pretty straightforward path until a cave, where it gets really dark but is still easy to navigate through to the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Grace. From there, go up the stairs and take the lift on the right. At the top, you are in front of the boss area. Go in, watch the cutscene, then when the fight starts, quit out of the game. Load back in, and you are outside the mist. Get as close to the mist as possible without going through, then use Mohg's Shackle three times. Go in, and his AI is broken. This time around, though, it isn't quite as simple as spamming hits until he's dead. If you get him down onto his knee, he starts attacking like he normally would. For this reason, you have to attack around 5 times, wait 15 seconds, then repeat until dead. It is quite long, but probably shorter than fighting him considering he is pretty difficult.

Just in case this ever gets patched I'll leave this here:

If it does get fixed, check the Tyrannicon channel to make sure he hasn't found something new, you never know.

The reward for winning is a crazy 420,000 runes, his great rune, his remembrance, and the achievement:

Before we move to the next page, I'll quickly mention that this isn't a remembrance you want to sell. Moghwyn's Sacred Spear is an insane weapon. Go get it and try it out, it may be able to carry you through the rest of the game, depending on future patches that make adjustments to probably all weapons.
