Genshin Impact Ganyu Birthday Celebrated with Fan Art & Cosplay

December 2 marks the birthday of Ganyu in Gneshin Impact, one of the most popular characters of the game, so needless to say many fans have been sharing their own fanart and cosplay on Twitter.
Why is Ganyu so popular in Genshin Impact
Not only Ganyu is cute, she’s also one of the strongest characters in the game. As in, it’s very easy to deal a lot of damage with her. Despite being a Bow character, thanks to her Charged Shot, Ganyu players don’t need to aim. Just shoot the floor for massive DPS. Ganyu is also one of the easiest characters to build when it comes to farming for Artifacts with good substats. Last but not least Ganyu’s gacha banner never got a rerun yet, so players who started Genshin recently never got the chance to add her to their party.

How Japanese fans celebrate characters’ birthdays
First off, this is now a tradition for every Genshin Impact character’s birthday, developer mihoYo published a new artwork and SD illustration featuring Ganyu on Twitter. Players also got a message from Ganyu in-game.
Eh? D—Did I doze off again…? Thanks for waking me up.
What a rare view. These flowers are beautiful, right?
It's soothing to take a break here… But I somehow dozed off again.
I still have work to do… Let's sit here for a while and then head off.#GenshinImpact #Ganyu

Next, for novelty sake, we’ll be focusing on the fanart and cosplay shared on Twiter by Japanese fans. There’s nothing unusual for anime and game fans in Japan to celebrate characters’ birthdays. So you’ll see not only “Ganyu” but also her Japanese name “甘雨” (Kanu) trending all day on Twitter.
In particular, Japanese fans will always make a “birthday festival” tag for the character so everyone can easily share their creations. Ironically though some of the best pieces shared are often untagged. When you’re an otaku, it’s like a treasure hunt each time one of your favorite character’s birthday rolls around.
The birthday tag for Ganyu is #甘雨生誕祭2021, and I recommend browsing it with the “lang:ja” Twitter search option activate. Lastly, I must warn you that most Japanese fans have no qualms sharing fanart of their favorite pairings including those you might dislike, or NSFW content, so browse the tag at your own risk.
That’s pretty much everything you should know about characters’ birthdays when it comes to Japanese-stylized media; Though you probably already knew all that stuff if you’re an otaku and clicked on this article in the first place. I’ve included some of the cosplay and fanart I’ve spotted in a series of tweets below.
