Dade City, Florida - Officials are praising a Pasco County sheriff's deputy who broke up an alleged murder plot early Thursday morning. Four Lakeland residents are charged with attempted first degree murder. Officers say that after an argument, the suspects beat Wendel Prestridge of Lakeland, tied him up, and tossed him in the trunk of a car. Prestridge says the suspects told him they were going to dump his body in a swamp. While the car was being driven around, Prestridge was able to free himself and open the trunk. The driver pulled the car over, and police say the suspects again beat Prestridge, this time with rocks found nearby. After regaining consciousness, he pulled out wires from the vehicle's tail lights, in hopes of alerting law enforcement. The ploy worked, and a Pasco Deputy pulled the car over. While searching the car, the deputy heard Prestridge screaming from inside the trunk.Prestridge was rescued, and arrested were 21-year-old Amy Welch, 21-year-old Johnathan Luesing, 20-year-old Justin Deel, and 18-year-old William Poole. All four suspects have been booked into the Pasco County Jail. They will face charges in Polk County for Attempted First Degree Murder, Robbery, and Armed Kidnapping. Deputies say the suspects were angry about a girl Prestridge had been dating. The investigation is ongoing.
