Fans Call Out Zachary Levi’s Subpar “Stereotypical Kid” Acting in Shazam 2: “Doesn’t even TRY to act anything like Asher Angel’s Billy”

Zachary Levi starrer Shazam! Fury of Gods is out and has failed to impress the audience, which is evident by its box office collection. The movie’s first-day US collection was much lower than its 2019 prequel. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the second installment of Shazam! series run by DCU. Levi’s performance in the Shazam! Fury of the Gods has disappointed fans hugely. Fans are pessimistic about any possible third installment in the future and have cited Levi’s portrayal of Billy Batson as the reason.

Zachary Levi Couldn’t Align With Asher Angel’s Performance

Asher Angel played the younger version of Billy Batson aka Shazam in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Many fans believe that the performance of Levi was much poorer, as Levi never imitated his younger version well. Thus fans could easily spot the misalignment in the character and story of the central character. Angel portrayed Billy Batson the way fans were expecting, whereas Levi’s portrayal shaped the character in altogether a different form. 

Fans were even more annoyed, as Zachary Levi‘s poor portrayal was highlighted by the fact that the other starring actors tried their best to imitate their younger version. The viewers of the movie could easily spot this difference. The viewers jumped to the conclusion that the movie could have become way better if Levi would have tried harder to imitate his younger version.

Fans Are Upset With Zachary Levi’s Performance

Shazam! Fury of the Gods had already disappointed fans with its zero connection with the Black Adam despite the few months of difference in their respective releases. Fans believe that the current movie series Shazam! clearly failed to bring the story of the original comic book line. The internet was filled with posts and comments from disheartened fans who had much higher expectations from the second installment of the Shazam! series.

With the current poor performance of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, fans believe in the fact that Zachary Levi is not the right fit to play the role of Billy Batson. The fact that there was no announcement made by the co-CEOs of DCU related to the third installment of the Shazam! series also adds to it. Fans seem pretty convinced that if the current trend of the released movie continues then it is highly unlikely to ever see Shazam! 3 on-screen.
