Dominic Fike to drop 'Vampire' MV directed by Robert Pattinson, fans seek apology first for 'Cancel Me' lyrics

Alternative hip-hop singer Dominic Fike is about to drop a brand new music video for 'Vampire', off his debut album 'What Could Possibly Go Wrong'. The track's official music video, which has been directed by Robert Pattinson who's famously known for playing Edward Cullen in the 'Twilight' vampire film series, will be released on Friday, October 30, at 12 pm PST.

Fike took to his social media on Thursday, October 29, to announce the music video's arrival. "VAMPIRE VIDEO TOMORROW NOON PST DIRECTED BY @ROBERTPATTINSON," the singer wrote on both Instagram and Twitter, and shared a teaser of the video. In the 18-second clip, Fike plays a vampire inviting a helpless victim to an eery party and preying on her in front of what looks like his vampire entourage. Check out the 'Vampire' teaser below.

Fike's announcement drew mixed reactions from fans on Twitter. "THIS IS GONNA BE SICK," says an excited fan and another writes, "that's hot."

Even though majority of Fike's fans are excited about the new music video, some are calling the singer out for a controversial lyric in one of his recent songs and are demanding his apology. When one fan asked, "hi um when is my merch going to ship," another replied, "he mocked the me too movement get rid of the merch."

The lyric in question is "They need you, I hope I get me too'd," from Fike's track 'Cancel Me', also off his debut LP. According to critics, the lyric isn't an outright mockery but more of a tongue-in-cheek reference of the movement which is commonly taken very seriously. Justin Curto of Vulture wrote, "The lyrics are mostly just hyperbole — he currently lives in LA — if poorly executed. 'I hope I get Me Too’d,' Fike raps to close the second verse, a line that only muddies the statement he’s trying to make, just like the title and chorus do."

Regarding 'Vampire', Fike has promoted the song previously. According to NME, the singer performed the song in a 'Fortnite' video game music concert in September, along with other 'What Could Possibly Go Wrong' tracks such as ‘Come Here’ and ‘Chicken Tenders’. His debut album arrived in July 2020.
