Dating Men: Do You Work Out With Your Boyfriend?

My husband and I rarely workout together. Mostly because he says I run too slowly for him. I do enjoy my solo workouts; there's something so relaxing about being alone with your thoughts while working up a sweat. But every now and then, I wish I could get Chris to join me.

Most guys I've dated didn't enjoy working out with me—unless being at the gym at the same time counts. Which I don't think it does. And a quick poll of my gal pals in relationships revealed that their dudes don't enjoy exercising with them either.

When I heard about a "Yoga for Athletes" class held at YAS in Los Angeles, I signed us up right away. Chris was a bit reluctant; he'd never done yoga before. The one-hour class kicked his butt. And mine too if we're being completely honest.

After the class wrapped up, I chatted with our instructor Pixie about working out with guys. So what's up with guys acting all snobby when it comes to working out? "Usually guys that workout are already athletes," says Pixie. "So usually they think that their workout is going to be harder. If they've never tried yoga, 9 times out of 10 they're blown away at how difficult it is."

And though Pixie's class is geared for athletes, she shared that a lot of men "are intimidated to come to yoga, which makes no sense. It's your practice; it's not a performance. So there's no right or wrong and It's your own journey and it's fun." Plus, Pixie played some pretty mellow music in her class; my husband (the indie-music snob) approved.
