With Rohit Sharma pulled out of the first Test owing to injury, KL Rahul will captain the team, with several other key players absent from the squad due to a seemingly never-ending string of ailments among the selected contingent. India will play Bangladesh in a two-match series, with both games being must-wins to qualify for the World Test Championship 2021-23 final next year.

After the Asia Cup catastrophe, T20 World Cup semi-final defeat, and most recently the ODI series loss against Bangladesh, the squad will approach the next Test series with one note of optimism: they are yet to lose a match in the format against the hosts.

pitch report

The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium ground in Chattogram has historically been spin-friendly, and it is anticipated to remain so for the first Test match, which begins on December 14.

The surface will only become better for spinners as the match proceeds, with more purchase predicted from ‘Day 3’ onwards, when the pitch will begin to hold up a little better.

The hitters, on the other hand, will love their time in the middle throughout the contest, with the new pitch promising a boatload of runs throughout the four potential innings.

While the new ball bowlers will pose problems to the hitters, the spinners may determine the match.
