To show what a good guy Ty is, he immediately asked me how Mom and Dad were and if they had a great rest of their trip. Then this hilariousness happened:
Ty: I'm so glad they had the best time here!
Jessica: Yes, and my Dad still can't get over that you're a Rams fan!
Ty: That's awesome. So what do you guys think of Finnegan getting signed yesterday?
Jessica: Ok, now I'm embarrassed. I don't know this yet. I'm so obsessed with everything ESPN but I've been working on five deadlines this week and haven't had a chance to read anything!
Ty: Yeah, they just signed Cortland Finnegan who is a good, but controversial cornerback. People think he plays dirty. The dirtiest player in the league by all accounts.
Jessica: Are you kidding me? I'm so disappointed then.
Ty: Well, maybe that's not accurate.
Jessica: I feel like Spags [former Rams Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo] never would have signed someone like that because he was such an advocate about professional players playing with a code of honor, but obviously this is Coach Fisher's team now. (And it turns out Finnegan used to play under Coach Fisher in Tennessee).
Ty: Yeah, that's a good question.
Jessica: Yeah, no kidding. Well, since this is Glamour and not the NFL Network, we should probably talk about how dashing you look tonight and this little show you're on. [laughs]
Ty: Haha!
See what I mean? You don't have to be a fan of sports to appreciate what this guy does. He is great at engaging in conversation, and it's nice when you can talk to stars about pretty much anything.
Of course, since we were there to honor Modern Family, I had to know in what way is Ty like Phil? "I think I'm like him in a lot of ways. I'm unlike him in that unfortunately I'm too neurotic to be Phil. Phil is such a peaceful, mountain brook of a brain, and I just have too many bees buzzing. I wish I had the simplicity of his brain."
