1980s pop star Vanity died Monday at age 57, according to NBC News.
The singer passed away at Washington Hospital in Fremont, California.
Vanity, born Denise Katrina Matthews, sang in the band Vanity 6 and played Laura Charles in the cult urban-kung-fu classic "The Last Dragon" and Sydney Ash in "Action Jackson."
TMZ reports Vanity died after a battle with sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis, which causes an inflammation of the small intestines. She had recently set up a GoFundMe page asking for financial support for dialysis for kidney failure stemming from a drug overdose in 1994.
