Black History Month is here! While there are plenty of African-American celebrities to celebrate, let us take a look at some of the celebrities who are leaders in today’s world. Not only are they making a change in their industries but also making a change in the black communities and advocating change.
1. Tyler Perry
Perry has worked not only as one of the top African-American filmmakers but also as an advocate for black voices through philanthropy. Perry has paved the way for filmmakers alike.
2. Halle Bailey
Halle Bailey blew out of the water (pun intended) with her breakout role in Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ making her the first African-American to play a Princess in a live-action Disney film. Bailey is paving the way for those alike.
3. Will Smith
One of the most successful black actors is not only an Academy Award winner but a Grammy Award winner. Smith has moved to producing and directing, as well as advocating for black voices.
4. Beyonce
The pop star has dominated and is still dominating the R&B music industry, by being innovative and making the right moves. She also has a foundation and is paving the way for black singers.
5. Lebron James
James is creating a legacy for all athletes. The Lakers player has broken numerous records and has given back to foundations for the Black community multiple times.
6. Oprah
The talk show host wears many hats and is always an advocate and philanthropist for many communities and foundations.
7. John Legend
The African-American musician not only has award-winning music, but also wears the hat of a producer, and actor.
8. Quinta Brunson
The up-and-coming sitcom actress has made headway for black comedians and motivates women in the Black community.
9. Simone Biles
The gold medalist inspires many young women to reach their goals and is an advocate for Black athletes.
10. Laverne Cox
Cox is not only an award-winning Black actress but she is also a part of the transgender community, paving the way for Black transgender voices.
